What is The Good Life and how does one live it? The emerging field of Positive Psychology is anchored in the belief that psychologists must study mental health, not simply mental illness. Happiness, well-being, play, serving one's community, healthy work and satisfying relationships are all vital components of a life filled with richness.
Thriving is one of the most interesting and valuable concepts in positive psychology. We all know people who seemingly flow through life as if it's a breeze-but it isn't. These select few are the Thrivers of the world, the 'glass half full,' 'silver lining to the cloud' people. They encounter the same obstacles and challenges as everyone else, but process 'negative' events differently than depressed people, and they bounce back after traumas much more quickly. Thrivers are fun to be around and a tremendous asset in the work environment.
Positive Psychologists are now beginning to share their research, firmly believing with very few exceptions, that we can all learn how to create a healthier, richer life.
Dr. Garaman practices Positive Psychology in her work with individual clients as well as business organizations and resorts.
